About UsWho are we?Football World is a small, Essex-based independent publishing company owned and run by its two directors, Tony McDonald and Susie Muir. Formed in 2000, the company has since evolved into a multi-faceted organisation that owns and publishes a number of its own sporting publications from books, to magazines, souvenir programmes, brochures and other periodicals. Football World has also amassed an impressive contract publishing portfolio over the years, providing extensive publishing services editorial content, design, production and distribution for leading sports organisations such as The Football League, The Rugby Football Union and Royal Ascot. For three years between 2002 and 2004, McDonald edited and produced The Football League's souvenir matchday programmes for their five showpiece finals League Cup, LDV Vans Trophy and the three divisional play-off finals, all held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. He also edited the RFU's England Rugby magazine for the first two years from its launch in 2001, plus three consecutive annual editions of the official Royal Ascot Magazine between 2002 and 2004. Football World has also specialised in editing and producing official monthly magazines on behalf of other publishers and leading football clubs, including West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City. With a wealth of sports publishing experience behind them, McDonald and Muir have also held management roles for other companies producing official titles for Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds United, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, Crystal Palace, Leyton Orient and Southend United. A long-suffering West Ham United fan, McDonald edited the club's award-winning matchday programme for three years in the early 90s and edited the monthly Hammers News Magazine for all but 18 months between its launch in 1987 and 2005. He has collaborated on a number of football biographies and other books, including Tony Cottee's Claret and Blues (1994), West Ham United Who's Who (1994) and Boys of Œ86 (2001). What we do...Having worked hard and successfully for lots of others over the years, we now put much more emphasis on our wholly owned titles in the football and speedway sectors. Books In late 2004, we published The Life of Brian, a tribute to the late and legendary Derby County and Nottingham Forest manager Brian Clough by Tim Crane, and Confessions of a Speedway Promoter by John Berry, as well as Nightmare on Green Street, written by West Ham fan Peter Thorne. May 2005 saw the publication of Mr Tottenham Hotspur, a book paying tribute to the late, great Spurs boss, Bill Nicholson, and written by Steve Hale. We have a number of other football and speedway books planned for later in 2005 and beyond... Magazines EX In 2002, we launched EX the monthly independent West Ham retro magazine, which is packed with new, exclusive interviews with former Hammers favourites covering the period from the 1960s to the late 90s. In May 2005 the magazine organised and promoted a reunion dinner to mark the 40th anniversary of West Ham United's greatest-ever achievement winning the 1965 European Cup Winners' Cup. In March 2004, we launched the successful bi-monthly Backtrack magazine, specifically covering the 1970s & 80s period of the shale sport. A year later, we took over ownership of the quarterly Vintage Speedway Magazine (VSM), which had been established for 12 years and covers the sport's history from its origins in the late 20s through to the 70s. The magazines complement each other perfectly and are distributed worldwide to a niche speedway readership thirsty for the kind of nostagic content provided by Backtrack and VSM.
