ABOUT US
Introducing...
FOOTBALL WORLD is an Essex-based independent publishing company wholly owned and run by Tony McDonald and Susie Muir, who both have a wealth of experience in the sports publishing business.
Formed in 2000, the company has since evolved into a multi-faceted organisation that owns and publishes a number of its own sporting publications - from books, to magazines, souvenir programmes, brochures and other periodicals.
McDonald and Muir originally worked together when they launched Football World Magazine in the spring of 1998. The concept was to produce a glossy, full colour fortnightly rival to the long-established World Soccer published monthly by IPC. Their fifth issue - the France 98 World Cup Special - sold 20,000-plus copies through the newstrade but, after 34 issues, they sadly ran out of cash, their backers pulled the plug and, unable to gain new backing, they had to admit defeat. World Soccer have had the (UK-based) international football market to themselves ever since.
Undaunted by that costly learning experience, McDonald and Muir have contiued to bounce back. Football World has built an impressive contract publishing portfolio over the years, providing extensive publishing services - editorial content, design, production and distribution - for leading sports organisations such as The Football League, The Rugby Football Union and Royal Ascot.
For three years between 2002 and 2004, McDonald edited and produced The Football League's souvenir matchday programmes for their five annual showpiece finals - League Cup, LDV Vans Trophy and the three divisional play-off finals, all held at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
He also edited the RFU's England Rugby magazine for the first two years from launch in 2001, plus three consecutive annual editions of the official Royal Ascot Magazine between 2002 and 2004.
FW has also specialised in editing and producing official monthly magazines on behalf of other publishers and leading football clubs, including West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City.
In his previous senior role as publisher at Independent UK Sports UK Ltd (a former division of The Independent) in the late 90s, McDonald was behind the launch of official titles for Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds United, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers.
But Tony Mac remains a long-suffering West Ham United fan at heart and the club his father Terry represented as a youth and reserve team player in the late 50s has consumed much of his output through the years, He edited the club's award-winning matchday programme for three years in the early 90s. In 1987 he persuaded West Ham to launch the monthly Hammers News Magazine and remained as editor of that title for all bar 18 months of its existence from '87 until May 2005.
He has collaborated on a number of biographies and other books, including Tony Cottee's Claret and Blues (1994), West Ham United Who's Who (1994), West Ham's Boys of '86 (2001), West Ham United: The Managers, plus the series of West Ham: In My Day books. His latest effort saw him work closely with Mark Ward on From Right-Wing to B-Wing (2009).
Having worked very hard and successfully for other publishers over the years, McDonald and Muir now put all their efforts into their our specialist, niche book and magazine titles in the football and speedway sectors.
